Prof. K. H. Chikhalia is working as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University since academic year 2017. Prior to this he was Professor and Head in the Department of Chemistry, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. He has total teaching experience of 36 years. He has successfully guided 28 students for Ph.D. and 17 students for M.Phil degree. He has published more than 125 research papers in reputed national & international journals. His h-index is 24 and citations are 1828 (SCOPUS). He has delivered numbers of lectures and invited talks in national and international conferences. His main research area is development of bioactive scaffolds by various cross coupling and C-H activation synthetic strategy. His group has developed C-H activation protocol including alkynylation, olefination and aryne mediated functionalisation through aryne, carbene and radical to get various sp3-sp, CH-NH and olefins. Moreover, successfully employed intramolecular and intermolecular cyclization to produce heterocycles like Indenoquinolinone and 5,6-dihydrophenanthrolidine by aryne, Domino strategy to set 9-fluorenone analogue of Tilorone (anticancer drug), Annulation reaction of Indoline, Diazepine, 1,4-Benzoxazine via alkyne cyclisation, azeto[1,2-a]benzimidazole via CH-NH activation etc. All studies have been proceeded through optimization and establishment of mechanistic pathway. Various metal catalysts like Pd, Cu, Fe & Ru were tried and some regioselective transformation were achieved by employing same strategy. In addition, thio-bridged derivatives were also synthesized through Intramolecular Sp2(Aryl)-Sp3(Alkyl) cross dehydrohalogenative coupling reaction. He has studied transition metal catalyzed C-H activation and developed a contemporary approach to the omnipresent area of retro synthetic disconnection. In the vast zone of C-H bond activation, the functionalization of proximal C-H bonds has gained utmost popularity.
