The Department of Computer Science (DCS) is one of the pioneering departments of the University that offers Information Technology courses since last 18 years. The courses offered are 3 years MCA course (full time), 1 year PGDCA course (full time), 1½ year PGDCA course (part time), M.Phil and PhD programmes. The department's dedication to impart technical expertise coupled with periodic update of the curriculum inculcates and fine tunes the essential skills required to meet the dynamic demand of the industries. With this diverse set of programmes, DCS has stayed at the forefront of emerging technologies. Further, the selection procedure for various Post-Graduate programmes at DCS ensures that only the very best of students make it to its campus. To enhance the awareness of the rapid changes in the computer science, students participate in various guest lectures and workshops conducted by eminent personalities from the industry.
MCA: The MCA programme admits students with any under graduate degree. The three year course comprises of a 6-months project, where the students gain hands on experience in the emerging technologies and 30-months of course work to develop a sound theoretical knowledge. Core courses include Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, System Software, Networking Technologies, Database Management and Artificial Intelligence. The MCA admissions are on the basis of the common Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) held each year for the entire state of Gujarat, wherein DCS is among one of the most preferred institutes amongst the students.
M.Sc. (Bioinformatics): The M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme admits science graduates with pertinent specialization. The two year course comprises of a 3-months research project, where the students gain sound practical experience and 21-months of course work to develop sound theoretical knowledge. The selection is based on the score obtained in DCS Bioinformatics entrance test held for the course each year.
