DEPARTMENT OF AQUATIC BIOLOGY
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
This is the only university department in Gujarat and second in India providing thorough education in biological aspects of aquatic environment to students and researchers specializing in basic studies in aquatic resources. The department is vigorously involved in the research especially in the thrust areas like Aquaculture, Pollution & Toxicology, Fish Cytogenetics, Aquatic Ecology, Hydrobiology and Fish biology. The department has so far produced more than 30 Ph.D. students. Three students were awarded national level research scholarship. Since the establishment of the department, 10 research projects were completed with the mobilization of more than Rs. 44 lakh. The department regularly organizes the expert talks to sensitize and train the students in the field of the aquatic biology.  The Curriculum includes theory papers, practicals, field work, excursion and dissertation

A candidate must have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examination in Science with English as compulsory subject. A candidate who has obtained his/her Bachelor’s degree with any one subject in Biological Sciences e.g. Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Fishery Sciences, Industrial Fish & Fisheries, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Medical Technology as principal or subsidiary shall be eligible to apply for admission in M.Sc. Aquatic Biology degree Course.
